Start with Lighting 

The first place to start is the access the lighting in your room. There are a few factors that could be contributing to a dark room. 
  • Check the wattage on the bulbs you are using. You may have a dim light bulb installed and not realize it.
  • Switch from incandescent to LED bulbs. 
  • It is easy to overlook dusting. You may need to dust your bulbs and your glass light fixtures. 

A Fresh Coat of Paint Goes a Long Way! 

If it's been a while since your home has got a fresh coat of paint, it may be time to do so. Consider choosing light colors because the light will bounce off the walls and help brighten your space. White is going to be your best option but as long as you go with light shades, a fresh coat of paint will brighten any room immediately. 

Add a New Rug 

Your flooring can play a part in darkening your room. Especially if you have dark flooring. Break up some of the darkness with a bright colored rug.
