6 Healthy Sleep Habits

We all know that sleeping is necessary to keep us alive but many of us partake in unhealthy sleep habits. Creating healthy sleep habits can greatly improve not only your life but also your productivity. But what exactly are healthy sleep habits? 1) Exercise Daily 

You may be thinking, what does exercise have to do with my sleep? Creating an exercise routine is healthy for your body and can actually help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep. However, you shouldn't sacrifice sleep for exercise because you won't be doing yourself as much good.

2) Create a Sleep Schedule

Sometimes this is easier said than done, but creating a sleep schedule and sticking to it is important for your overall sleep health. Creating a schedule and sticking to it will help regulate your bodies clock and could help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep until it's time to wake up.

3) Avoid Napping Late in the Day 

A power nap can help boost productivity in the afternoon but if you find that you are having trouble falling asleep at night, it may be best to skip your afternoon nap. If taking a nap doesn't inhibit your sleep at night, then, by all means, take a nap but if you find it hard to fall asleep at night, your nap may be to blame.

4) Relax and Unwind Before Bed 

You should take time to relax and unwind before bed. However, this doesn't mean watching tv or getting on your phone. Reducing bright lights and screen time will help you get into a relaxation state and help you to fall asleep faster.

5) Create a Great Sleeping Environment 

Your bedroom should be a relaxing escape where you feel comfortable. Be sure to free your bedroom of any noise, keep your blinds pulled down to create a dark environment, and make sure your room is at your preferred temperature. Keeping your room too hot or too cold can affect the way you sleep.

6) Comfort is Key

Your mattress plays a huge role in how well you sleep at night. Make sure that your mattress is both comfortable and supportive. A quality mattress should last 7 to 10 years and if your mattress is older than that, it might be time for a new one. Without a comfortable mattress and pillow to rest your head at night, you may find yourself tossing and turning, which isn't good quilty sleep.
