Even if you have a small room, you never push furniture against the walls. Allow a couple of inches between the wall and the furniture to allow breathing room. Keep Traffic Flow in Mind 

Making sure that you keep traffic flow top of mind is essential. Keep plenty of space between coffee tables, chairs, and sofas. It should be easier for people to walk from one room to another without tripping over furniture.
