4 Ideas for a Functional AND Stylish Kid-Friendly Living Room!

We hear it a lot, how do we keep our living room home decor looking great when you have young children? With toys everywhere and trying to keep your children's safety top of mind, sometimes it's hard to come up with ways to still have an "adult" looking living room space. That's why today, our furniture store at the Lake of the Ozarks has a few ideas on how to create a stylish and functional living room that's kid friendly!

Choose Stain-Resistant Fabrics

Let's face it, spills WILL happen. It doesn't matter how hard you try when you have children something is bound to be spilled at some point or another. This is why you should choose materials for your living room furniture that are stain resistant. Leather furniture is a great option because when something gets spilled, it can easily be wiped off. If you're not a huge fan of leather, consider purchasing furniture that is dark in color or has a pattern. That way when a spill happens, you can clean it up and if a stain is left behind it won't be that noticeable.

Choose Furniture with Built-In Storage

When you have little ones, they tend to drag all their toys out. A great way to store away toys out of sight out of mind is to get creative with storage solutions. Purchase a coffee table and end tables with deep drawers to store away toys when they are not being played with. If you have a big comfy chair or sectional, purchase a stylish ottoman that has storage space inside! Having accessible storage in your living room will allow for easy cleanup.

Choose Rounded or Plush Tables

When your kids start walking, it is almost inevitable that they will fall. If you have coffee tables and end tables that are square with pointed edges you risk them falling and getting hurt. Instead, consider getting tables that have rounded edges. Sure, this won't 100% protect them from getting hurt but it will better than hitting their head on a pointed corner. Another option is to get rid of the coffee table entirely and replacing it with an ottoman. This will not only be safer for the kids, but it will also add style to your living room.

Choose Kid-Friendly Flooring

Again, spills will happen. That is just part of it when you have kids. Choose flooring that will wash easily. Great stain resistant flooring includes tile, wood, laminate, and vinyl. Carpet typically isn't the best choice when you have children. Eldon Furniture recommends vinyl flooring because you can purchase vinyl flooring that looks like beautiful wood flooring but it is waterproof, which is perfect when you are raising a family.
