#1 Electronics Before Bed 

Did you know studies have shown that using electronics before bed can actually interfere with your ability to fall asleep? Lights from televisions, cell phones, tablets, and more can send "wake-up" signals to your brain, which is why sometimes it's hard to fall asleep before bed if you've used an electronic device. If you find that you're using electronics before bed, try to limit this and see if this helps your sleep issues.

#2 Caffeine & Alcohol

A late night cup of coffee or alcoholic drink may seem relaxing before bed, but it can have a serious effect on your sleep. Caffeine can stay in your system for up to 6 hours, and if you're getting 8 hours or less, it isn't recommended to consume caffeine before bed. Some claim that alcohol can help them fall asleep, which may be true, but it won't last long term. It's recommended to have a hot cup of caffeine-free tea or warm milk if you need something to help you unwind before bedtime. 

#3 An Old Mattress 

A lumpy, bumpy, and old mattress can be the cause of not getting a great nights sleep. The average mattress lasts 7 years. If your mattress is older than 7 years, it may be time for a replacement. An old mattress can not only be the cause of lack of sleep but can also play a role in back pain and joint pain.

#4 Exercise

Studies show that regular exercise can help you sleep better - however, this is depending on timing. If you workout right before bedtime, you'll likely struggle to fall asleep. This is because intense physical activity, like working out, gets your internal system going, which is why you may not be falling asleep easily.

#5 Bedroom Temperature 

The temperature of your bedroom can play a big role in how well you sleep. The Better Sleep Council recommends 65 F (18C). Warm bedroom temperatures can keep you awake resulting in lack of sleep.
