Tips for Picking Out a Dinning Room Table

While many of us like to go off of looks alone, sizing is arguably one of the most important features to consider. Think about how many people will be sitting at your table. You may only have four people sitting at the table consistently, but if you like to host parties or have everyone over for the holidays you may want to consider a larger table with a leaf.

In addition to seating, you should take wall clearance into consideration as well. Think about where you will put your dining room table, and how much space you have to work with. You should leave at least 36 inches, although 48 inches is ideal, between the edge of the table and other furniture or the wall.

Dining Room Table: Shape 

When choosing the right shape for your dining room table, you should consider what look you are going for as well as how much space you have. Below is a breakdown of a few shapes to consider.

Rectangle 

One of the most popular or traditional choices is a rectangle table. This table shape works great for big get-togethers and family gatherings. You typically have more flexible seating at a rectangle table.

Round 

Round dining room tables work great in smaller spaces and allow for natural flow in your space. Round tables are great if you are trying to create an intimate setting. You won't have as much seating at a round table, typically, but this style works great for conversations.


Square 

If you are dealing with a smaller space or looking for something more casual, a square dining room table works well. If you want to host gatherings occasionally choose a square table that comes with a leaf. Then, you transition to a larger table when you have guests over. A square table is a perfect choice for going from casual to more formal.

Dining Room Table: Style 

When it comes to your dining room table style, you should think about your lifestyle and the theme of your home. You want your dining room table to match the current theme of your home. For example, if you have a more modern home, you should stick with a more classic modern design. If your home is more rustic or farmhouse, then your table should reflect that style.
