Wood Furniture Care - Tips and Tricks!

 When you purchase high-quality furniture, keeping your furniture in great shape is important. Your furniture is an investment so it's important to know how to care for it properly. Maintain Your Wood Furniture 

Taking care of wood furniture isn't hard you just need a regular cleaning schedule to clean off the dust. We recommend dusting your wood furniture one time per week with a damp cloth but be sure to wipe away any extra moisture to avoid damage.

Protecting Your Wood Furniture

How you treat your wood furniture on a day to day basis will play a part in how long your furniture will last. Below are a few things to keep in mind when you use your wood furniture.

  • ALWAYS use a coaster when setting down a glass or coffee cup. Condensation or heat from your cup can destroy the finish on the wood. For your wood dining room table remember to always use a hot pad - even on pizza boxes!
  • Make use of felt pads under lamps, coasters, and any decorative item that sits on top of a wood table. 
  • Plastic materials, nylon, and rubber should not sit on your wood for an extended period of time. These items can damage the wood over time. 
  • You shouldn't write directly on your wood furniture. When writing, place a thicker pad or paper under what you are writing on. Writing on a thing piece of paper can put an indention into your wood. 
  • Control the moisture of your home! The climate of your home can make a difference in the wear of your wood furniture. If you live in a humid climate, your wood can swell. If this is the case, consider getting a dehumidifier for your home.


Making Touch-Ups 

Even if you try really hard to take great care of your wood furniture, accidents do happen! Minor damage can often be fixed. Get a few tips below! 

Scratches and Dents 

As long as the scratch or dent is minor, it can often be fixed. For a touch-up, you can match a permanent marker, purchase a furniture pen, or shoe polish. Carefully rub it into the scratch and it will be far less noticeable or maybe not even noticeable at all! 

Rings 

Did you or another family member forget to use a coaster and now you have a white ring on your wood furniture? This is going to be a little tough to get out but it can be done if it's in a timely manner. The main goal is to get the moisture out of the wood. You can try a low heat blow dryer, rubbing alcohol, or they make a water ring remover that you can purchase at the store.
