Tips for Hanging New Artwork in Your Home!

Ready to refresh your space with new artwork on the wall but not quite sure the best ways to hang it up? Today, our furniture store at the Lake of the Ozarks has a few tips for the best practices when it comes to hanging new artwork on your walls! Read on to learn more!

Don't Make These Mistakes

It's easy to make mistakes when hanging artwork and you may not even know you're making a mistake! The following mistakes could be the cause of your artwork "not looking right."

#1 Hanging Your Artwork Too High

One of the biggest mistakes people make when they hang their artwork is hanging it too high on the wall. Typically, it's best to hang your artwork at eye level. The only exception to this would be if you have low ceilings.

#2 Hanging Your Artwork Too Low

On the flip side, if you've got really high ceilings, it's easy to hang up your artwork too low. Leaving a lot of blank space above can look awkward.

If you have high ceilings, the best way to hang artwork is to divide your wall into four equal sections. Then, hang your artwork in the third section from the floor.

#3 Choosing the Wrong Size

It's important that the artwork you choose for your home is proportionate to your space. No small artwork on a big wall and you should avoid hanging artwork that is so large that it takes up a large portion of the wall.

For hanging artwork above a fireplace, make sure that the piece is at least the length of the fireplace but no wider than the mantle. For mirrors above your couch, the bottom should be at least six inches but no more than eight inches. Keep the mirror or artwork approximately 3/4 of the length of the couch.

Tips for Hanging Artwork

Do you want to know the secret to hang artwork like they do in art galleries? You should hang your artwork 57 inches on center. Let us explain below...

The average eye-level height is 57 inches. To hang up your artwork at 57 inches on center follow these tips steps!

Step 1

Measure and mark 57 inches from the bottom of the floor.

Step 2

Measure your artwork to find the center point. The easiest way to do so is to measure the height and divide by two.

Step 3

Measure from where your hardware will attach to the nail to the top of the frame.

Step 4

Subtract the measurement you get from step 3 from the number you get from step 2. (The distance between the hardware and the top of the frame)

Step 5

The number you get from step 4 will be how far above you mark your nail hole from the 57-inch mark.
